Inspections

We offer a variety of inspections for businesses. Most recently we have been assisting businesses from coast to coast with information and testing regarding the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). We are helping businesses know what is in the component parts and providing detailed reports about the items that they sell to children.

You can either have us come to your business and perform the inspection on-site, you can come to our office or you can mail us your products to be tested.

All inspections will have a trained XRF inspector will come to your location and provide elemental information about any products you wish tested.

During the inspection we will incorporate photography of the items tested and collect any data about the items you wanted tested and incorporate this information into our software package. This information can include:

  • Product name and number
  • Description
  • UPC or bar code
  • Manufacture date and location
  • Batch number
  • Country of origin
  • Any other information you can provide

We offer a four types of business inspection:

On-Site Inspection

An on-site inspection is a great way to get any number of items tested quickly and easily.

We will send a trained XRF inspector will come to your location and perform an inspection on any items you wish tested. The inspector is available to answer questions while testing is being done. After the inspection, a detailed report will be generated (usually within 24 hours) which provides all testing information about each inspected item.

On-site Testing Costs

General Costs and terms

  • $140 for the first 1/2 hour
  • $60 for each additional 1/2 hour
  • Costs are rounded to the nearest 1/4 hour
  • We can typically perform around 50 tests per hour
  • We are working with partners on phthalate screening - cost available soon
  • There is no travel cost for inspections located within approximately 25 miles of our location in Redmond, WA
    • Ferry/Toll costs are additional
  • If you are outside the Seattle, WA area, we are more than happy to travel to you anywhere in the country. Travel cost is based on expenses, please contact us for arrangements and cost estimate

In-office Testing

With the opening of our first retail location, we now offer the option of performing tests at our office in downtown Redmond, WA. Testing at our location can be done in two ways:

Drop off in-office testing

Drop off testing is a convienient way to get one or more items tested for very little cost. Just give us a call to make sure we're in the office (we may be out performing on-site inspections) and drop your items to be tested off. We will test them and have a report ready for you within three business days. If you can't wait this long, you may want to do a scheduled in-office testing session.

Drop off testing is charged based on the number of tests that you want performed (depending on the item, you may want or need more than one test per item). See the costs below.

Scheduled in-office testing session

If you can't wait for results, we offer the option of scheduling a time to come to our office for in-office testing. Just give us a call to schedule a time to come to our office. We are available for these sessions most mornings and when we are not otherwise out doing an on-site inspection. Once in our office, we'll perform testing while you wait, testing results will be produced at the end of your scheduled session.

Scheduled testing sessions have two pricing options; per test pricing or time based pricing. We can also offer a no-report option where we can give you a quick yes or no answer to questions about the presence of any of the 26 elements we can detect. This option allows us to do much quicker testing, but does not offer a written report at the end of the session. See the costs below.

Mail-in testing

Mail in testing is a convenient way to get one or more items tested even if you don't live near our office.

Steps and requirements to mail packages

Step 1: Identify all products you would like to be inspected and gather any "meta-data" about the item you would like included in your report. This can include; product name, item number, UPC code, country of origin, manufacturer name, etc...

Step 2: Sign and date our contract, and include this in your package(s) to be mailed to us.

Step 3: Send us an email or call us with your tracking information so we can keep an eye out for your merchandise. We will email you or call you when your package has arrived and give you an estimate on turn-around time. Currently, our turn-around time is within 72 hours. When testing has completed, we will email you a PDF of your test results and will include a CD with our software and your data in your returned packages.

  • Each item is photographed and cataloged and any data you submit will be included.
  • Items are tested one or more times using the handheld XRF analyzer.
  • Element quantity and spectral analysis results are recorded for each test. This shows both numerically and graphically how much lead and other elements are contained in the item.

Step 4: When you receive your package, please give us a call and we will help you with the installation and usage of the software and report generation capabilities. We are always here to help.

Per test testing costs are based on our "punch card" pricing. This allows you to pre-purchase a set number of tests and use them over time. Pricing per test depends on the quantity you purchase and is as follows:

Prices are subject to change without notice, prices are also based on an average of 50 tests per hour. If the time to test your products is greater, additional charges will apply.
